Local Mission: Upcoming Service Projects

Several years ago, First Christian Church, Houston, started involving ourselves in the local community as a way to serve others and live our vision of bringing ourselves and others into a vital relationship with Jesus. The kingdom of God appears anywhere that the will of God is done on earth as it is in heaven (Think of the Lord's Prayer) When we serve a church member in need, a stranger in our community, or a nation in the world, God's will is done and God's kingdom is made known.

Below is a short description of our Cool People Care service projects. The links will take you right to the page to sign up - name, cell phone, email, and which project(s) you want to join in:

Cool People Care Saturdays, November 1, 8, 15

Twice a year, First Chrisitan Church creates a season of doing service project in our community, we call it Cool People Care. Sign Up Here.

Cool People Care is one way that FCC serves our community in the name of Jesus. For three Saturdays in November we will serve Lord of the Streets, The Houston Food Bank, and Christian Community Service Center. Each of these ministries make a huge impact in many lives; and we get to be a part of the work God has called them to do.

Sat., Nov 1 Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) thanks to over 1,700 volunteers, CCSC currently provides services through: Emergency Services, JobNet, Martha’s Way, Jingle Bell Express, Back To School, The Louise J. Moran Vision Care Program and the Sunshine Resale Shop. In the past we have helped in organizing their food pantry, clothes closet and construction projects. CCSC is often the recipient of our clothing, canned food and can opener collections.

Sat., Nov 8 Houston Food Bank is known across the world for its store house of provisions and well run organization. Their motto is “Filling pantries. Filling lives.” The HFB collects and distributes food to hunger relief agencies. Volunteers like us sort and pack food so that the HFB can re-distribute food to the community, feeding 100’s of 1,000’s a year.

Sat., Nov 15 Lord of the Streets is a ministry to the poorest of the poor in Houston. Just a few miles from the church, they provide social services, a clinic and a weekly meal for 1,000s of Houston’s homeless. In the past we have refurbished their chapel floor, painted the clinic waiting area and helped in their office organizing a backlog of case files.
