This classic is one that I read in highschool. This time around was a whole lot better. It sure describes what I have now seen in my adult experience as a dark and fundamental (no pun intended..LOL) aspect to religion handled dreadfully by many of my fellow human beings. I don't take Hawthorne to be dismissing religion outright. Glad I read it!
